Enhancing the ProBots Broadcast [Behind-the-Scenes]

We’ve been making some major improvements to our ProBots broadcasts, and I wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what’s new. Here’s how we’ve been working to enhance the storytelling and design of our broadcasts.

One Key Objective: Better Storytelling

Our main goal was to improve the storytelling throughout the broadcasts. To do that, we focused on two areas: the matches and the bots.

Improving Match Context

We realized that providing more context during matches would really enhance the viewing experience. So, we revamped how matches are displayed. Instead of just showing a single “this is a match” slide, we’ve integrated match information throughout the broadcast. Now, almost all non-in-game scenes support the idea of “where are we in this match night.” This way, even if you tune in late, you can quickly get oriented.

Elevating Map Presence

Maps have been a bit neglected in the past. They play a crucial role in bot performance, so we’ve started to highlight them more. We now show who vetoed which maps and who won on specific maps, giving deeper insights into the strategies at play. In the future, I’d love to bring more map information and traits to the surface, showing how different environments affect bot behavior.

Reimagining Bot Stats

We’ve also reimagined the stats page to better reflect a bot’s journey in ProBots. We’re moving from simple stat comparisons to deeper insights into unique traits. We’ve added new stats to highlight innovative solutions, encouraging bot creators to push the boundaries.

Enhanced Stats Database for Casters

On the backend, we’ve enhanced our stats database for casters. Our internal database now includes detailed info like past tournament wins and participation records. This helps our casters easily recall and discuss a bot’s history, improving the storytelling during live commentary.

These updates are designed to make the broadcast experience more engaging and informative. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing these changes in action!
